EVOLVE Program

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

---- Margaret Mead

IAC’s EVOLVE Program has a special focus on developing each participating student’s social outreach, extracurricular interests, and community engagement skills. EVOLVE students are empowered to become well-rounded citizens whose social contribution is as valuable to the individual as to the community.

IAC provides meaningful opportunities for each student in the EVOLVE Program to volunteer where help is needed most. From repairing the unexpected damage caused to Canadian communities after natural disasters, to combatting deforestation and protecting endangered species, there is a place for each EVOLVE student to make a real difference. Volunteer positions are selected specifically to help young volunteers to benefit from the experience of contributing to the local community and seeing the direct results of their work. The school provides necessary supervision and assistance to volunteers in the field in order to ensure students’ safety and wellbeing in each volunteer placement.

The EVOLVE Program recognizes the importance of learning through real social experiences. Each student in the Program is encouraged to develop his or her skills in a personal interest such as a favorite sport, competitive mathematics, or political activities such as Model United Nations. The Program’s Co-op dimension enables students over 16 years to find relevant internship opportunities including tutoring, teaching and marketing assistant positions. The school provides necessary training and professional support according to each student’s extracurricular and co-op choices.

Learning through travel is another central value of the EVOLVE Program. This is why students in the Program can expect to participate in several trips through the semester. These may include horse riding or ski trips over the weekend, as well as a longer trips aimed to introduce students to Canada’s diverse natural and social landscape. Students and parents will be kept updated on trip schedules and options through each semester.
